Rochester impressive in Week 1

Post by pjohns »

After having the 16th ranked defense last year the Raiders limped to a 5-9 record despite the top ranked offense.

Week 1 this year they faced Tennesee who made the AFC Championship game last season. The results for Rochester were impressive, the defense limited Tenn to just 15 yards rushing on 15 attempts and knocked out starting QB Kyle Rowley. Rowley was a surprise starter as last year Tony Graziani threw for 23 td's and 4 ints as he led Tenn to just one game away from the FIFL Bowl.

Rowley didnt do much and only threw a touchdown late in the game when it was all but over. Rochester led 26-5 until the late touchdown and the defense got a Grade A for their performance.

The Raiders had 5 sacks, create a huge turnover on a fumble when Tenn were about to score and QB Quincy Carter was effective throwing for 218 yards on 18 out of 21 attempts.

The only bad news was an injury to starting RB Harold Shaw. Shaw could miss two weeks but his backup did well. Jamil Porter ran for 80 yards, he was caught for a safety but made a lot of good runs combined with Joshua Rue.

For Week 2 however the Raiders announced that Rue will start at HB1. Rue has great stats, is very strong and quick and this is his chance to perhaps take over at HB.

With 87 yards WR Rob Mager moved up to 30th on the all time list in just his 6th season. Doubling his stats would give him 14,000 yards in 12 seasons which would make him 3rd all time.

Veteran LB Shan Housekeeper had 3 tackles which moved him to 17th all time. A 60 tackle season would possibly put him in the top 10 LB's of all time.

This week Rochester face Honolulu and face former Raider DE Chris Browning who was traded to Hon a few years back.
