FIFL Gold Cup: The Last Decade (2015 - 2024)

Post by TC »

Looking back over the last 10 years of FIFL Championships, post the league-wide realignment, there are some interesting findings:

First, a list of the winners for reference:
  • 2015: Gold Cup XVII - TEN
  • 2016: Gold Cup XVIII - MIN
  • 2017: Gold Cup XIX - PIT
  • 2018: Gold Cup XX - SPR
  • 2019: Gold Cup XXI - MIN
  • 2020: Gold Cup XXII - SPR
  • 2021: Gold Cup XXIII - MIN
  • 2022: Gold Cup XXIV - TEN
  • 2023: Gold Cup XXV - WCH
  • 2024: Gold Cup XXVI - GBY
Notes:
  • The National Conference has won 7 of the last 10 Gold Cups
  • Of those 7 National Conference victories, ALL of them have been teams in the North Division
  • 0 Pacific Division teams represented the National Conference in the last 10 Gold Cups
  • Tennessee and Minnesota are tied for the most appearances with 4, with 2 of those against one another - 2021 & 2022
  • Of Tennessee's 4 total appearances, 3 of those were in consecutive seasons - 2021, 2022 & 2023
  • Pittsburgh and Springfield are tied for the second most appearances with 3
  • All of Pittsburgh's 3 appearances were in consecutive seasons - 2017, 2018, 2019
  • 3 of the 10 games were decided by 1 point, all National Conference wins (2019, 2020, 2023)
  • 5 of 10 championship games have been decided by 5 points or less
  • The largest margin of victory is 17 points - Pittsburgh over Wichita in 2017 (27-10), and Minnesota over Tennessee in 2021 (24-7)

Questions to be answered: Will the American Conference start their own decade of dominance? Will the Pacific Division send a team to the Gold Cup in the next 10 years? Feel free to post your own :)
