Peoria for the second straight season is picking first overall. Last year the Pirates shocked many around the league when they selected RB Lee Suggs first overall. Suggs was clearly the best player available, but considering the depth at runningback it was a surprise. Suggs played well in limited time for the Pirates managing to acculumate 493 rushing yards and 6 rushing TDs.
No word yet who the Pirates are leaning towards. Defense could use help after finishing 9th in pass defense and 13th in rushing defense. DE Andre Wadsworth and LB John Digiorgio have the potential to be difference makers on defense. The Pirates also finished dead last in passing offense last season. Many fans are hoping that the team will try to get a franchise quarterback with the pick. Jason White is the cream of the crop, but QBs don't traditionally go first overall in FIFL. In fact only one quarterback has been selected higher than 4th overall, and that was Shedrick Bonner at 2nd overall. Will the Pirates shock people again this season?
One thing seems likely, and that is the Pirates will hold onto the first overall pick. Peoria's GM wouldn't rule a deal out of hand, but indicated that the team was unlikely to part with the pick.
