So Along Comes this Team from The National Conference...

Post by Mike »

...and he brags about the following:

"Slayers have not had a losing season since 2009....that's 16 consecutive winning seasons....
4 - which is how many Gold Cups are in the Slayers' trophy case..."

There is no disputing the facts. However the context is important. How does a team get to be so successful? By beating teams in their own Conference. One team's schedule has three out-of-conference games. It seems that other teams have two. So, to be so successful, the team had to had to beat teams in its own Conference. Then they had the right to the playoffs, more of the same. Then to win the Gold Cup, the team had to play a team from the other Conference that it may not have played in years.

What this means is that Springfield is bragging about how much better it was than the National Conference teams. I'm surprised he would risk being so insulting.

So, now we see Springfield is in the American Conference. Hasn't had a losing Conference since 2009, eh? (as they say in Canada). Here is another fact: Springfield is 2-4. Last year, Springfield finished a winning 8-6. It just goes to show you how arrogantly superior the Slayers owner regards his team over the entire National Conference.

Getting back to the American Conference, the in-Conference points for are 94 Points For, less than 20 a game. Points against are 104 points for, more than 20 a game. Hardly dominant. Now this week they play a team that has hot streaks but is projected to be the worst in their division. (see 2026 Season Preview). We've heard the bluster...now is the chance to back it up with something real.
