Fort Wayne Safari gets cut down by the Knights

Post by Mike »

Austin (UPI)-The new and improved Fort Wayne Safari got cut down by the hometown Knights in Shining Armour....or should I say the Knights cut down Armour five times today! Despite holding onto the ball for so long, Armour was only good for just over 200 yards. The addition of Cummings was a good move....but is it better than having rookie WR Larry Ray Willis as WR1? We're not sure yet.

Austin won by taking advantage of Fort Wayne's pitiful pass defence (81% passes completed by Austin!) and Austin's 'bend but don't break' defence kept Fort Wayne out of the end zone. Austin's defence played the perfect game agaisnt the likes of Armour, 7th overall rusher Coleman, WRs Cummings and Ray Willis. A 67 yard reception by WR1 Mercury Hayes gave Austin the only major of the game, inspiring the defence to new heights.

Fort Wayne is in some turmoil. The fans are ecstatic of the drafting, but the trading is abysmal. LB Salcido was released after Fort Wayne was smashed by Lincoln's HB Cates, but after Cates ran for 138 yards against Wichita, Salcido's release looks premature. Newcomer LB DeVita played well for Fort Wayne, leading with 6 tackles and one sack. K Vanderjagt is perfect this year. However, something is always failing in Fort Wayne, and this game it was the pass D.

Just like last year, fans in Fort Wayne bring bags over their heads, but this year, they keep on taking them off and putting them back on right during the games! Looks like an identity is emerging in Fort Wayne, but right now they look schizophrenic!
