Bishop is back

Post by portland »

As the Winnipeg Blue Bombers look to add former Bombers QB Michael Bishop to the practice roster today, banged-up starting QB Buck Pierce was taking first-team reps in practice.

Bishop, 35, played for the Bombers in 2009 and was most recently on the Calgary Stampeders roster in July as a backup to Henry Burris. He did not appear in any games for Calgary and was released in August.

Pierce got the vast majority of first-team repetitions during Wednesday's practice at Canad Inns Stadium, suggesting head coach Paul LaPolice is still giving serious consideration to starting him against Montreal.

While Pierce appeared to be in discomfort on Wednesday - moving gingerly and missing some throws badly - he completed many more than he missed and was able to throw both crisp and long, completing at least three passes in excess of 45 yards.

Bishop is being brought in as an insurance policy in the wake of injuries last weekend to Pierce (ribs) and backup Alex Brink (separated shoulder). He will most likely be slotted fourth on the Bombers depth chart, behind Pierce, Brink and Justin Goltz.

Brink practised with the first team offence on Tuesday as Pierce sat out. Pierce said Tuesday he would attempt to practise today, but if he cannot go at Canad Inns Stadium on Friday against the Montreal Alouettes then Brink is expected to start.

Bishop is not expected to practise with the Bombers at Canad Inns Stadium on Wednesday -- the club's last full practice before they face the Als.
