FIFL REWIND - 2015 Week One

Post by TC »

Welcome to the very first 'Rewind', a look back at the week that was in the FIFL. Or, for those of you familiar with "TC's Take", consider this a 'streamlined' take with half the comments, minus the rankings and weekly awards. ;)

So, let's get started shall we?

61
The number of pass attempts by Portland QB Sonny Cumbie in a losing effort against the Wildcats in the 2015 Kick Off Classic. Record???

Flowers...from Pirates?
Peoria kept giving Minnesota all of HB Little John Flowers they could handle. Flowers finished the day with 102 yards rushing, 22 yards receiving and 2 TDs. The 2014 ROTY trophy should be sitting on his mantle...yes, this Pirate was robbed.

David who?
Horsemen HB David Winbush played the game of his life with 149 rushing yards, 94 receiving yards and 3 TDs. Is Winbush the answer in the backfield for the former Freeze?

Sarcastic Aside - 2014 ROTY Marvin Stone had 2 catches for 15 yards. My apologies - how can i forget the 65 combined return yards? \aside

You choose - "Grumpy Old Men" or "Bucket List" Bowl?
Raiders QB Albert Higgs lead his team to victory over QB John Fourcade and the Safari in what has to be the only game in FIFL history with 15-year vets at the helm for both teams.

NEW...and Improved?
There's a different vibe to the start of the 2015 season. We have new teams, new owners, new rivalries...the use of the word 'new' just got old. There's also a reNEWed energy here on the forums with more posts, in most cases multiple posts per day. Improved? Your comments are welcomed.

"Be kind, please REWIND."

Until next week,
TC

45 completions a record, however record for attempts is Kurt Warner's 65 (2007, wk04).

As for Flowers, we are talking about a new season. Let's remember Flowers had 709 yards rushing in 2014, and 105 in week 14 just to get him there. The Pirates were 3-11. Stone lead rookies in receiving and was 57-859 (15.1), and Fargo was 5-9.

I do see an argument if looking at the other 3 ROTY who were HB's.

Lincoln Coleman (2005) 161-614, 3.8. 9 TD - 1,217 total yards
Wesley Cates (2006) 251-1,032, 4.1, 6 TD
Bam Morris (2011) 212-944, 4.5, 14 TD

David Winbush, Kansas Jayhawk.... yes, exactly. David who?

Wow...just looked at the box score for that game. Fargo had 38 first downs and lost!

Regarding Flowers...I looked at the total contribution he made to Peoria last season. 11 total TDs (6 rushing / 5 receiving) and 1,417 total yards from scrimmage. No other rookie RB was on the rushing or receiving yardage leader list. His numbers are overall better than Coleman's.

I know it's not going to change things...I voted for Flowers and was just surprised to see Stone get it. I was happy to make that known though. :)

Hehe...I had no idea where Winbush came from...thanks David.
