Honolulu (AP)- Despite a few disappointments such as last week's nailbiter against Everett, the Honolulu Hurricanes are poised to do what seven other teams have not accomplished: beat the Minnesota Fighting Pike.
At first, one might think that is wrong, given the 170 yards rushed by league-leading HB Duggers. However, that was against PEO which, while having an awesome QB, has the 14-th rated rush D. Meanwhile HON will protect its home turf with the 6th-ranked rush D. And, In case MIN thinks the run can open up the pass, HON has the #2 rated pass D to have the #1 defence.
The other factor is HON itself. HB Cates, WR Shakes, QB Perez, WR Nash, DT Wells et al. all have one thing that the Minnesota Baby Minnows do not: experience. The #2 active QB, #4 active HB, and #1 active WR have a canny bag of tricks to deploy against the Pike. Meanwhile, the Pike, with their #13 pass D, will have to contend with QB Perez' valued passing attack.
No one can discount QB Shaun King, but to win against the #1 rated defence on the road for such a young offence is too much to ask. This will be the loss resulting in a wake-up call to a team that could be the Gold Cup Winners this year.
