TC's 2019 Mock Draft - Part III (Picks 9-13)

Post by TC »

Here's the third installment of my 2019 mock draft, which covers the next five picks.

Please feel free to post your own predictions, comments, disagreements, etc.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9. GREEN BAY: G Paul McQuistan
Rationale: The Bombers had 2 veteran offensive linemen retire at the end of the 2018 season. There are currently 3 guards on the roster, with 2 of them in their 10th+ season. Green Bay can pair McQuistan with young Guard Melvin Paige to form a solid duo at the position for at least the next 8 seasons.

10. CONNECTICUT: S Calvin Lowry
Rationale: Despite an aging defensive line with a lack of depth, the Coyotes mustered the league’s best defense against the run in 2018. On the flip side, Connecticut was ranked next to last against the pass with 9 defensive backs on the roster. The safeties are aging and the oldest (Thaxton) may not even make the roster. The Coyotes also have a need at offensive line and running back, but they can likely pick up solid players at these positions as the draft progresses…starting quality defensive backs are rarely found in the later rounds.

11. CHESAPEAKE: CB Jimmy Williams
Rationale: Chesapeake needs help at Safety, but the big 3 at Safety are gone so the Tide selects the top Cornerback in the draft to boost their secondary. Look for Chesapeake to move one or more of their current corners to safety.

12. WICHITA: DE Brian Smith
Rationale: The Warlords were 14th in the FIFL at sacking opposing QBs, so their defensive line need will outweigh the need at the LB position. Drafting a DE at this slot would also provide Wichita versatility in using their 2015 first round pick, DL Antwan Lake.

13. EVERETT (from Rochester): DT Orien Harris
Rationale: The Hawks are one of 6 teams to not have any players retire after the 2018 season, so there’s not a pressing need. However, 2 of the 4 DTs on the roster are in their 10th season so Everett selects the best available DT to provide depth and a future starter.
