Here's the fourth and final installment of my 2019 mock draft, which covers the last five picks.
Please feel free to post your own predictions, comments, disagreements, etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14. COLORADO (from Minnesota): LB Odell Thurman
Rationale: With two first round selections this year, the Wildcats can address both of their biggest needs – defensive tackle and linebacker. Colorado selects the 2nd best linebacker on the board at this spot, possibly because they see Wichita with similar needs.
15. COLORADO: DT Kareem Brown
Rationale: The Wildcats fill their second need with back-to-back picks. Brown may be a reach as a first-rounder, but Colorado can’t afford to see if he’s available in the second round.
16. HONOLULU (from Fort Wayne): CB Anwar Phillips
Rationale: With the pick they acquired for WR Na’il Benjamin, the Hurricanes have the luxury of potentially making a flashy pick, like a running back since the Woody Dantzler experiment hasn’t exactly panned out. Not sure that Honolulu will pull the trigger on a rookie RB with a first round pick again, so I’ll go with the odds that the decision will be a defensive player and the Hurricanes continue to bolster their secondary.
17. PITTSBURGH: DE Vincent Burns
Rationale: The Gladiators only have 2 defensive ends on the roster, so they have to address the position in the draft. Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, 3 defensive ends were drafted ahead of them but like Colorado, they cannot afford to wait until the end of the 2nd round to select a player at the DE position.
18. SPRINGFIELD: S Marviel Underwood
Rationale: With Porter and Longoria getting “long in the tooth”, the Slayers draft a young safety to groom for a few seasons.
