TC's Take - Week 3

TC’s TAKE – Week 3

Here's my quick review of everything we saw in Week 3 of the 2007 FIFL season:

TC's Top 10

1. Portland (2-1) : In seasons past, a loss to Lincoln would most assuredly drop you from the #1 spot…but not in 2007. Road games are always tough to win in this league.

2. Mississippi (2-0-1) : Special teams keep the Firedogs from moving to 3-0 (3 missed FGs). HB Avery gets an opportunity and takes advantage of it, gashing the Seagulls defense.

3. Mobile (2-0-1) : A tie is not a win, but it’s also not a loss (sounds like something Yogi Berra would say) - good showing on the road in Mississippi against division rival.
Mobile GM has to be happy with season thus far.

4. Lincoln (2-1) : Lightning rebound and manage a ‘W’ against Portland. Veteran acquisitions are paying HUGE dividends so far for Liincoln GM.

5. Austin (2-1) : HB Sherman Jones getting it done for the Knights. Defense will need to continue to play well (like they did against Madison) in extremely tough Gulf Division.

6. Dayton (2-1) : Skyhawks slip past Fort Wayne. We’ll see just how good this team is on the road against the defending champs.

7. Fargo (2-1) : It always pays to have a little luck on your side as the Freeze did in their win against Black Hills. Regardless of luck, Fargo will contend for the division title again this season.

8. Billings (2-1) : Bolts prove they can win without Cates having a monster day.

9. Honolulu (2-1) : Hurricanes offense playing well. WR Brown was a great addition and is becoming a favorite for QB Mike Perez.

10. Fort Wayne (1-2) : Except for their game against Portland, the Safari have been in each game. HB Coleman continues to impress.

Offensive Player of the Week

Beast HB Leotis Flowers – 153 rushing yards and 2 TDs. Flowers ‘steps up’ against his old team. Besides, recently released Beast QB Hohensee could throw for 3 TDs against the Slayers secondary.

Defensive Player of the Week

Lincoln DTs Eddie Bynes and Bear Barley – Portland QB Albert Higgs will be having flashbacks about these 2 guys for the next week (combined for 5 sacks)

Special Teams Player of the Week

A 2-way tie this week between Beast WR Rashaan Vanterpool and Thunderbolts WR Lincoln Dupree. Each had a punt return for a TD which contributed to their respective team’s victory.

Honorable mention : Springfield K Mike Black’s fumble recovery which set up a Slayer TD.

Next week
The Beast look to even their record against undefeated Mobile and the Wildcats look to do the same at home against Dayton. Prowlers and Freeze clash in Fargo. Game of the Week : Mississippi at Austin.
