2025 WEEK 7 PREVIEW [HIBC 1st Edition]

Post by Green Bay Bombers »

FIFL, 2025 Season, Week 7 Preview HIBC First Edition

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear [Buffalo Springfield]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Portland (1-5) at Bismarck (1-4-1)

@ Bismark Event Center… nearest city, Calgary, Alberta Canada.
Leading candidates for the consolation prize #1 Draft Pick! Jo Jo Max isn’t looking for that prize… 2026 Draft Picks #1 & 2 are gone. Prowlers defense not up to snuff this season. Jason He & the Blaze made some good moves preseason feeling the heat looking to improve for the future? He’s a heady veteran who has a plan. Scouting PPPs 1st half edge goes to POR. 2nd half a wash… it’s not much to go on. Curious choice RE: POR QB starting Mike Reilly over Khari Jones… probably setting the edge in favor of Bismark.

POR offense 7th 81.2 rush - [12th] / 248.3 pass - [5th]
defense 17th 96.8 rush - [14th] / 279.2 pass - [18th]
scoring 18.0 for - [10th] / 25.3 against - [18th]
---------------------------------------------------------
BIS offense 14th 75.0 rush - [16th] / 229.7 pass - [10th]
defense 15th 99.0 rush - [16th] / 248.0 pass - [14th]
scoring 15.8 for - [16th] / 21.7 against - [14th]

key matchups:
QB Chris Dixon (5 TDs/1606 yds) vs. Portland pass D
WR B.J. Sams (43 rec/604 yds/1 TDs) vs. CB James Romain
WR Arlan Bruce (41 rec/525 yds/1 TDs) vs. CB Robb Butler

prediction:
Portland 20, Bismarck 24 HIBC sez BIS -3
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Colorado (3-3) at Reno (2-3-1)

@ The Meadowlands… nearest city San Francisco
Wildcats capable… a constant thorn in the side. Christian A had 2 Gold Cup wins [2005 & 6] and Colorado has remained competitive in ensuing years. [Jimmy H hates facing this team] Bryan H 2nd time around in the FIFL and a welcome addition. He stubbornly clings to his Maverick approach no matter how misconstrued it may be. Regardless, the Express always fields a solid, aggressive competitive team. [Jimmy H loves playing this team] Wildcats deploy with deviously divergent PPPs… Reno counters with historically tried and true PPPs. They occasionally will shift to Plan B as the situation calls for it, just don’t expect that this week. 1st half features REN balanced OFF attack vs COL 3-4 zone blitz scheme… inconclusive, suspect REN passing attack could click, but could go either way. 2nd half has COL historically power OFF vs historically dominate REN DEF. COL counters with known 3-4 zone blitz DEF… hence the deviously divergent observation. Both halves for both teams seem to cancel each other out. [how’s that for politicking?]

COL offense 3rd 104.3 rush - [4th] / 253.2 pass - [3rd]
defense 11th 88.2 rush - [9th] / 227.8 pass - [10th]
scoring 18.5 for - [7th] / 18.8 against - [12th]
---------------------------------------------------------
REN offense 9th 76.0 rush - [14th] / 247.3 pass - [6th]
defense 8th 93.0 rush - [12th] / 213.3 pass - [6th]
scoring 16.5 for - [15th] / 18.5 against - [10th]

key matchups:
QB Timmy Chang (5 TDs/1763 yds) vs. Colorado pass D
WR Yo Murphy (38 rec/424 yds/1 TDs) vs. CB Jerome Carter
QB Nick Davila (6 TDs/1572 yds) vs. Reno pass D
HB Danny Woodhead (421 yds/3 TDs) vs. LB Quincy Monk (36 Tackles)
WR Donovan Morgan (39 rec/493 yds/1 TDs) vs. CB Armagedon Draughn (1 INT)
TE Johnny Mitchel (30 rec/467 yds/1 TDs) vs. LB Quincy Monk (1 INT)

prediction:
Colorado 19, Reno 21 HIBC sez REN COVERS -2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wichita (3-3) at Honolulu (3-3)

@ Legion Field… nearest city Birmingham
Both teams remind us of 21st Century Schizoid Man [King Crimson 1969] How do Jim S Warlords go from plucky [2 OT wins to open the season, beat down GBY in week 4 then unlucky in losses to POR and ROC?] Kevin F and the Hurricanes similarly bouncing off the walls, but lead their division. Invoke the Football Gods for answers, as in there are none! HON built in SEC mold of smash mouth football. PPPs designed to make that work in their favor. WCH counters in the same mold. This game is classic case top #2 OFF [WCH] vs top #1 OFF. Edge goes to HON at home.

WCH offense 2nd 101.7 rush - [6th] / 260.0 pass - [2nd]
defense 14th 79.0 rush - [4th] / 260.7 pass - [17th]
scoring 23.5 for - [1st] / 20.8 against - [13th]
---------------------------------------------------------
HON offense 1st 117.5 rush - [2nd] / 244.8 pass - [8th]
defense 9th 92.7 rush - [11th] / 220.3 pass - [9th]
scoring 20.5 for - [6th] / 18.7 against - [11th]

key matchups:
QB Sherdrick Bonner (9 TDs/1632 yds) vs. Wichita pass D
HB Kenny Irons (574 yds/3 TDs) vs. LB Brandon Moore (47 Tackles)
QB James McNear (12 TDs/1741 yds) vs. Honolulu pass D
WR Billy McMullen (48 rec/595 yds/4 TDs) vs. CB Tracy Belton

prediction:
Wichita 21, Honolulu 24 HIBC sez HON covers -2.5
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Springfield (3-3) at Minnesota (2-4)

@ Veterans Center… nearest city Hamilton
WARNING! DANGER Will Robinson! Fighting Pike will bite you if you let them… DO NOT sleep vs this team! They absolutely destroyed Fort
Wayne last week @ Fort Wayne… and the Safari are a good team. The remarkable thing is they run stock PPPs every week. They are relentless wire to wire. (Marco in abstentia Shades of the Bud Grant era) Slayers dangerous anytime anywhere… T.C. figures to get SPR to the playoffs every season.

SPR offense 6th 83.8 rush - [11th] / 246.2 pass - [7th]
defense 10th 82.0 rush - [5th] / 233.2 pass - [11th]

scoring 18.2 for - [9th] / 17.5 against - [8th]
---------------------------------------------------------
MIN offense 13th 97.5 rush - [9th] / 210.3 pass - [14th]
defense 2nd 70.3 rush - [2nd] / 206.7 pass - [5th]
Leaders 1st downs: #1 Minnesota 82 21 60 1 25/85 29.4
scoring 16.7 for - [13th] / 16.3 against - [5th]

key matchups:
WR Yamon Figurs (28 rec/440 yds/1 TDs) vs. CB Dennison Robinson
QB Chase Daniel (6 TDs/1661 yds) vs. Minnesota pass D
DT Rob Schroeder (7 sacks) vs. G Sean Brown

prediction:
Springfield 17, Minnesota 20 HIBC take SPR & the points
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Green Bay (4-2) at Nashville (2-4)

@ Kellog Arena… nearest city Chicago
Revenge game... The Kats with then new owner Dean C were winless last season… Nashville derailed the powerful Bombers locomotive
behind excellent PPPs [and a generous assist from the AI... Mother said she had no chance, NO CHANCE! Heart breaker...RS] Green Bay, with basically the same team back this season, has plenty of bulletin board material this time around, hope to inflict a similar embarrassing defeat on the Kats… however, do not underestimate MR. Chambers despite the lowly record to date. Look for GBY to goto their capable TE duo and attempt to revive a heretofore moribund running game.

GBY offense 15th 59.7 rush - [17th] / 238.5 pass - [9th]
defense 4th 92.0 rush - [10th] / 199.7 pass - [3rd]
scoring 15.2 for - [17th] / 13.3 against - [2nd]
---------------------------------------------------------
NAS offense 4th 75.7 rush - [15th] / 262.8 pass - [1st]
defense 18th 132.5 rush - [18th] / 253.3 pass - [16th] 18 Nashville 191 795 4.2 81 8

scoring 22.7 for - [3rd] / 23.7 against - [17th]

key matchups:
HB Eric McCoo (304 yds/5 TDs) vs. LB Terry Pierce (37 Tackles) 28 McKnight, Rhema NAS 5 WR 29 520 17.9 69 2
QB Russ Michna (7 TDs/1570 yds) vs. Nashville pass D
WR Rod Miller (37 rec/526 yds/4 TDs) vs. CB Stanley Wilson
TE Kori Dickerson (29 rec/403 yds/0 TDs) vs. LB Steven Watson

prediction:
Green Bay 19, Nashville 21… WRONG! HIBC sez GBY -11
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fort Wayne (3-3) at Tennessee (4-2)

@ Madison Civic Ct… nearest city Indianapolis
Tennessee patented defense vs struggling Safari… Fort Wayne’s mission, should they decide to accept it, is to score points… Good luck, Mike…
Joe J’s Riverhawks define tenacious defense… it’s possible to move the ball, but next to impossible to score. Safari defense is formidable as well. Last season wunderkind QB Johnnie Manziel enduring the dreaded sophomore slump leads the league with 4 Ints and 16th ranked 86.3 rating...OUCH! Fort Wayne is a young team a couple of seasons from contending annually.

FWS offense 8th 99.5 rush - [8th] / 225.8 pass - [11th]
defense 3rd 87.8 rush - [8th] / 196.5 pass - [1st]
scoring 18.5 for - [8th] / 18.3 against - [9th]
---------------------------------------------------------
TEN offense 16th 108.2 rush - [3rd] / 175.3 pass - [18th]
defense 1st 71.7 rush - [3rd] / 197.7 pass - [2nd]
scoring 16.5 for - [14th] / 12.8 against - [1st]

key matchups:
HB LaBrandon Toefield (455 yds/3 TDs) vs. Fort Wayne run D (3.3 rush avg)
DE Chuckie Nwokorie (7 sacks) vs. T J.D. Sheldon
TE Jace Amaro (28 rec/264 yds/2 TDs) vs. LB Gary Stills

prediction:
Fort Wayne 16, Tennessee 20 HIBC STAR PICK ‘O THE WEEK: bet the under (36)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marion (4-2) at Lexington (2-4)

@ Rupp Arena… nearest city Indianapolis
Mayhem spin impressive 180 from 2024… Josh S has infused life into a perennial league doormat. Rudderless Horsemen competing for the #1 Draft Pick. Marion is using previously marginal PPPs in its’ favor this season. LEX is matching that pretty closely. Out of bounds thinking seems to the order of the day this season. [wonder where this comes from but thoroughly enjoying it] Top of the stat numbers for MAR shore up enthusiasm for W on the road.

MAR offense 5th 81.0 rush - [13th] / 252.8 pass - [4th]
defense 6th 85.8 rush - [7th] / 217.5 pass - [7th]
scoring 17.7 for - [11th] / 16.7 against - [6th]
---------------------------------------------------------
LEX offense 18th 46.3 rush - [18th] / 209.3 pass - [15th]
defense 13th 110.5 rush - [17th] / 218.3 pass - [8th]
scoring 13.5 for - [18th] / 22.3 against - [16th]

key matchups:
WR Darius Watts (52 rec/545 yds/2 TDs) vs. CB Tyrone Sanders
QB David Greene (7 TDs/1640 yds) vs. Lexington pass D
DE Erasmus James (8 sacks) vs. T David Sherrod
WR Raul Vijil (49 rec/607 yds/2 TDs) vs. CB DeJuan Tribble (1 INT)

prediction:
Marion 20, Lexington 18 HIBC hints prediction is accurate.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Connecticut (4-2) at Pittsburgh (3-3)

@ Mellon Arena…. Nearest city Pittsburgh
Rob G & the Coyotes on track for consecutive Gold Cup appearance. David H & the Gladiators suffering somewhat from quest to make Bam Morris #1 still solid. Keeping in character, basically use just two formations, the Ace and K-gun. Will use offset I formations at times but usually stick to the first two. Formations Include: Ace, K-gun, Offset I (weak and strong) Defense fervently traditional 3-4 zone blitz. CON counters with traditional league consensus winningest all purpose PPPs on OFF and Norris Division make you black & blue DEF. Going out on a weak limb here gotta like Con.

CON offense 12th 121.2 rush - [1st] / 190.5 pass - [17th]
defense 16th 98.3 rush - [15th] / 251.5 pass - [15th]
scoring 23.3 for - [2nd] / 21.7 against - [15th]
---------------------------------------------------------
PIT offense 17th 90.7 rush - [10th] / 191.2 pass - [16th]
defense 7th 64.8 rush - [1st] / 240.5 pass - [12th]
scoring 17.3 for - [12th] / 17.3 against - [7th]

key matchups:
DE Lauvale Sape (9 sacks) vs. T Charles Spencer
HB Kenneth Darby (457 yds/3 TDs) vs. Pittsburgh run D (2.5 rush avg)

prediction:
Connecticut 20, Pittsburgh 23 HIBC sez CON wins outright.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME OF THE WEEK!

Chesapeake (5-1) at Rochester (4-2)

@ Rochester… nearest city Buffalo
Jason Hi & the Tide in the drivers seat for now. Raiders always a threat to dominate. Paul J & the Raiders comes up agonizingly short in the playoffs despite making a case for the Gold Cup every year. American Eastern the best most competitive Division in the FIFL so far in 2025! CHE 1st half doesn’t use 6 offensive sets like the more diverse offenses, but will throw 5 at you equally. Formations include: Ace Offset I (weak and strong), K-gun, Pro. ROC mimics mentor inspired Steel Curtain DEF. CHE seems to assume it has the lead at the half and uses 2nd half grind it out on the ground PPPs there. ROC relies on its’ Steele Curtain. Edge to ROC as long they establish a running game. Tough to call, ROC at home makes a difference.

CHE offense 10th 102.2 rush - [5th] / 213.3 pass - [12th]
defense 5th 94.0 rush - [13th] / 205.8 pass - [4th]
scoring 20.7 for - [5th] / 15.5 against - [3rd]
---------------------------------------------------------
ROC offense 11th 101.3 rush - [7th] / 211.2 pass - [13th]
defense 12th 84.2 rush - [6th] / 240.7 pass - [13th]
scoring 22.0 for - [4th] / 15.7 against - [4th]

key matchups:
HB Mell Holliday (445 yds/5 TDs) vs. Chesapeake run D (4.1 rush avg)
WR Bethel B Johnson (42 rec/568 yds/2 TDs) vs. CB Rayshaun Kizer

prediction:
Chesapeake 18, Rochester 22 HIBC sez ROC -2.5
the only time we fail is when we stop trying
