probably need to open link in new tab or window... it's a classic rant!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wichita (5-4) at Reno (4-4-1) at Reno Events Center

The Warlords are a couple of pegs down on OFF lately, but still score a league leading 22.6 ppg. The Express will switch PPPs to keep opponents off balance so watch for that. One version of this game is a tale of 2 halves: the first features the Warlords fiercely doing what Warlords do. WCH uses 846TRAP direct HB snap. Ditto 946TRAP. WCH not afraid to run 30GLTRAP on 1st down from anywhere on the field. They furiously push the envelope, but curiously fail to put points on the board. REN keeps pace, but don’t look good doing so. The second half the Express inertialy plods forward while WCH tires. There is a very real chance this one goes to OT. Regardless, expect intense pressure football. Both QBs rightfully cited in the key matchups. Both should break off long gain scrambles. HBs Ennis Haywood [WCH] and Lee Suggs [REN] each approach a 100 yd game. REN LB Quincy Monk could have a busy day.

WCH offense 3rd 114.4 rush - [3rd] / 233.1 pass - [9th]
defense 16th 95.6 rush - [12th] / 252.6 pass - [17th]
scoring 22.6 for - [1st] / 19.8 against - [11th]
---------------------------------------------------------
REN offense 5th 84.0 rush - [12th] / 246.4 pass - [5th]
defense 13th 112.0 rush - [16th] / 221.6 pass - [8th]
scoring 18.4 for - [10th] / 20.6 against - [15th]

key matchups:
QB Timmy Chang (9 TDs/2589 yds) vs. Wichita pass D
QB James McNear (13 TDs/2363 yds) vs. Reno pass D
WR Billy McMullen (70 rec/844 yds/4 TDs) vs. CB Armagedon Draughn (1 INT)

prediction:
Wichita 22, Reno 23 HIBC sez Pick ‘em
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Portland (1-8) at Honolulu (6-3) at Legion Field Stadium

“Everybody’s got to be unlucky sometime… that’s just the way it goes” [Savoy Brown – Ring in His Nose...] It’s safe to say POR has been forsaken by the football gods this season. It’s also safe to say that trend continues this week. HB extraordinaire Kenny Irons virtuoso performance will continue in this one. The Prowlers may get shutout here. There are some good signs for the future as QB Mike Reilly put up a league leading 342 yds with 3 TDs last week. WR Bruce Arlan caught 11 of those passes for 160 yds and 2 of those 3 TDs. However, Reilly takes a beating this week. It’s hilarious watching QB Sherdrick Bonner, knowing he’s not getting the snap calling an audible from the shotgun on 846TRAP!

POR offense 4th 79.4 rush - [14th] / 255.0 pass - [1st]
defense 17th 103.2 rush - [13th] / 248.8 pass - [16th]
scoring 18.1 for - [11th] / 25.2 against - [18th]
---------------------------------------------------------
HON offense 1st 130.7 rush - [1st] / 251.1 pass - [4th]
defense 2nd 80.4 rush - [3rd] / 208.0 pass - [2nd]
scoring 21.6 for - [2nd] / 18.4 against - [9th]

key matchups:
QB Sherdrick Bonner (10 TDs/2455 yds) vs. Portland pass D
HB Kenny Irons (899 yds/8 TDs) vs. LB Boomer Ruud (69 Tackles)
WR Rob Mager (47 rec/694 yds/4 TDs) vs. CB James Romain
WR Arlan Bruce (69 rec/886 yds/3 TDs) vs. CB Tracy Belton

prediction:
Portland 18, Honolulu 26 HIBC sez HON -15
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Minnesota (3-6) at Colorado (3-6) at The Liberty Bowl

Lo and behold! MIN runs new OFF PPPs here! What madness is this!? Shades of John Riggins abound. Both teams 3-6. COL likely tries 47QBPASS… QB pitch right to HB1 throws back to QB on the left who targets WR1 deep right… wowsers. Both teams try it? Probably ‘Battle of the Field Goals’ here. MIN seems to cast a hypnotic spell on COL. Fighting Pike HB1 Damian Beane key to ground control. [to Major Tom]... MIN DEF another key suppressing the the Wildcats OFF. DE2 C. J. Ah Yo primed for big game?

MIN offense 17th 84.8 rush - [11th] / 207.4 pass - [14th]
defense 5th 89.7 rush - [8th] / 210.3 pass - [3rd]

---------------------------------------------------------
COL offense 2nd 105.7 rush - [7th] / 254.9 pass - [2nd]
defense 15th 90.7 rush - [9th] / 256.7 pass - [18th]
scoring 19.4 for - [6th] / 20.4 against - [13th]

key matchups:
QB Nick Davila (8 TDs/2425 yds) vs. Minnesota pass D
HB Danny Woodhead (684 yds/6 TDs) vs. LB Ezra Butler (52 Tackles)
WR Donovan Morgan (61 rec/795 yds/1 TDs) vs. CB Atcheson Conway (1 INT)
TE Johnny Mitchel (49 rec/727 yds/2 TDs) vs. LB Ezra Butler

prediction:
Minnesota 19, Colorado 21 HIBC sez MIN wins outright
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rochester (5-4) at Nashville (3-6) at Kellog Arena

Kats OFF based more on the Pro/Near/Far formations this week vs Raiders 3-4 blitz DEF. NAS HB Eric McCoo carries the load both rushing and receiving. This should be a close one… lots of punts. Kats QB Ricky Ray should have nice stat line. Don’t count out ROC, but home team advantage should win the day.

ROC offense 14th 98.7 rush - [8th] / 213.7 pass - [12th]
defense 10th 94.0 rush - [11th] / 232.3 pass - [13th]

---------------------------------------------------------
NAS offense 10th 78.1 rush - [15th] / 240.8 pass - [7th]

prediction:
Rochester 21, Nashville 22 HIBC sez NASH -2.5 [bet the under 42]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Springfield (5-4) at Tennessee (6-3) at Madison Civic Ct GAME OF THE WEEK!

Given the current state of PPPs for both teams, the propensity for SPR to arc a parabola over the top of the TEN DEF at any given moment will be huge. The Riverhawks are a dangerous team, especially at home. The SPR DEF is anchored by DT2 Rob Schroeder. It is imperative the TEN O-line put bodies on him to keep him in check. Look for the Slayers DEF to try to shut down the Riverhawks rushing game. HIBC going out on weak branch here… SPR pulls out the upset special of the week.

SPR offense 9th 112.1 rush - [4th] / 207.7 pass - [13th]
defense 8th 75.2 rush - [1st] / 244.1 pass - [15th]
scoring 17.7 for - [13th] / 17.1 against - [5th]
---------------------------------------------------------
TEN offense 15th 110.3 rush - [6th] / 192.1 pass - [17th]

prediction:
Springfield 16, Tennessee 21 HIBC sez SPR wins outright
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fort Wayne (5-4) at Lexington (4-5) at Rupp Arena

Stinker of the week! Neither capable of mounting a running game. The Horsemen appear to be mailing it in here. The Safari QB Johnny Manziel competent enough to carry Fort Wayne one step closer to the post season party.

FWS offense 12th 96.3 rush - [9th] / 217.4 pass - [11th]
defense 4th 84.9 rush - [5th] / 214.3 pass - [5th]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pittsburgh (4-5) at Chesapeake (7-2) at McNutt

This game lines up as an old American Football League style game – wide open fast paced ‘I can’t believe these guys run so fast’ nueveau slick football. Special Teams plays are exciting and brash. The Tide have to be the fave to appear in the Gold Cup representing the American Conference. CHE will try to contain the PIT rush game. PIT will have to shift to passing. CHE will try to play keep away rushing the pigskin and dominate TOP. Expect CHE home field advantage to allow it the to advance to the next tier in its’ quest for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Gladiators are game but fall just short.

Marion (4-5) at Connecticut (6-3) at Hartford Civic Center

Testing, 1… 2… yes, it has been confirmed, there has been a Marion Mayhem sighting [squelch shqualk] Indeed, MAR has elevated its’ game to a much higher level. The Coyotes continue driving toward an encore appearance in the Gold Cup. MAR will attempt to stifle the Coyotes run game. Both defenses are stout. There is a distinct possibility this one goes to OT. It’s anybody's game!

MAR offense 6th 72.9 rush - [16th] / 253.9 pass - [3rd]
defense 11th 87.6 rush - [7th] / 240.7 pass - [14th]
