TC’s TAKE – Week 2
Here's my quick review of everything we saw in Week 2 of the 2008 FIFL season:
TC's Top 10
1. Portland (2-0) : Prowlers must be excellent at playing “King of the Hill”
2. Austin (2-0) : The Knights climb 2 spots….it’s the defense that has them here thus far.
(1st against the run and 1st in opponent QB Rating)
3. Colorado (2-0) : Wildcats looking to prove that last season’s 7-7 record was ‘misleading’.
4. Dayton (1-1) : Skyhawks had 0 sacks against Austin and Dumas only had 1 reception.
5. Madison (1-1) : Mad Dogs’ offense (and QB Franzer) came back to earth but Hurricanes still needed OT to get the victory at home.
6. Black Hills (1-1) : Rookie QB Bishop ranked #4 in the league. I’ll eat my words…for now.
7. Mobile (1-1) : Seagulls back to late season form. Who the heck traded Brown to Mobile?!
8. Billings (1-1) : Defense has improved…but enough to take them to the playoffs?
9. Fort Wayne (1-1) : Which Safari team shows up this week against the Beast? Rookie TE Doering making an early case for ROTY.
10. Honolulu (1-1) : HB John Hall carrying this team. If Perez can get it going, Hurricanes will be in the playoff hunt.
Offensive Player of the Week
Portland HB Alvin Rettig – 253 total yards (173 rushing, 80 receiving) and 2 TDs. Rettig not content with last year’s MVP award.
Defensive Player of the Week
Portland LB Xamon Glasper – 6 tackles, 1 sack and 2 pass breakups.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Special Teams were the difference maker in 3 games in Week 2 and it’s difficult to determine which contribution was most important. So, this week 3 players share the award:
Firedogs WR Shon King’s 80-yard punt return for a TD - Mississippi defeated Louisiana 31-24.
Austin DT Paul Hawley blocked a 50-yard FG by Dayton K Mike Moser – Knights won 17-14.
Slayers DE Ricky Franklin blocked a PAT by Lightning K James Pucci – Slayers emerged 24-23.
Next week
3 teams (Lincoln, Louisiana and Wichita) look to avoid the 0-3 start and all 3 are at home – the opponents: Portland, Fort Wayne and Honolulu respectively. 3 teams are striving to start the season at 3-0 (Portland, Austin and Colorado) and all 3 are on the road – the opponents: Lincoln, Mobile and Black Hills respectively. Game of the Week: St. Louis at Billings.

Things seem to have calmed down in Austin...no QB drinking binges, etc. lately? But, the season is still young!

Yah well some of the big troublemakers left and the young boys have cleaned it up a bit. With Gary Porter, Ian Howfield and Elijah Raphael gone, the team has started actually trying to play!TC wrote:Things seem to have calmed down in Austin...no QB drinking binges, etc. lately?
