HB Odesta Shannon

Post by Mike »

former 5th-overall pick
15 Shannon, Odesta CON 9 HB 132 531 4.0 80 5
in receiving he is 2nd on his team:
Shannon 44 390 8.9 35 1

CON is now 5th in team rushing. Do not know if Shannon started the whole year. Still, he's playing a decent year.

yeah, he's having a decent year. Has started about 75% of the games this year for Connecticut. I can't complain since he was a free agent pickup :)

2011 MAD Shannon 25 88 3.5 22 0
2012 FWS Shannon 0 0 0.0 0 0
2013 FWS Shannon 18 77 4.3 19 0
2014 FWS Shannon 12 44 3.7 11 2
2015 FWS Shannon 58 138 2.4 30 1
2016 FWS Shannon 20 103 5.2 24 3
2017 FWS Shannon 22 114 5.2 19 1
2018 FWS Shannon 46 134 2.9 13 1
2019 GBY Shannon 2 7 3.5 6 0
2020 CON Shannon 158 675 4.3 80 5

Drafted 4th overall (1st round) in 2011 by Madison. Comparison of careers, Bam Morris went 2nd overall (1st round) and Paris Moore went 24th overall (2nd round) in the same draft.

Week 1 trade of 2012...
Madison trades HB Odesta Shannon and C Lane Evans to Fort Wayne for FB Wes Ours, G Tiki Sagapolutele and a 3rd round pick.
Good deal for both, though we like this one for Madison. Ours should be an instant success at FB1, opening holes for HB Stackhouse and Frost. Fort Wayne has Lincoln Coleman, but Shannon will make a great backup.

Okay then, you win that trade because of that 'one' game ! ;)

Or perhaps not !

Shannon did nothing with FWS in all those years. In return i got some decent pickups, Wes Ours had a few 1000 yard rushing seasons for me

But to be honest you win some lose some, i've made trades which didnt pan out for me. But at least be honest and say 'yeah it was a bad trade' !

When you had Lincoln Coleman i wouldnt spend much on a backup HB. Always surprised you made the Shannon trade

Wha??? I had Shannon for depth, then got other depth. I thought Coleman would retire, and then have to find a new HB, like I've been doing all year; I've started three HBs this year trying to find the one!

There is a difference between:
i)having a starter (FWS Coleman) and trading backups (FB Ours, RB Shannon)
and
ii)trading away a starter (ROC RB Ours) in his prime.

If I had traded away Coleman to play Shannon, well, that would be terrible. In fact, Coleman had 150+ yards in the 2013 Gold Cup after the Shannon trade (2012). In contrast only a dummy would trade a starting HB away, like ROC did to Ours!

I mean, look at Ours' career: 65th all-time scoring,
21#Ours, Wes FWS-MAD-ROC-ALB-POR
12 FB 1,309 5,313 4.1 84 52

2010-2014 Fort Wayne was loaded and I'm criticized for backup trades during that time? ha! double ha!

Trading Ours in his prime ?

With some players you need to try and estimate when they will go downhill. Then their value drops and theyre worth nothing.

Eg Jeremy Unertl - you want a kings ransom for him and hes an old veteran with slowish speed. Unless you drop the value he'll be untradeable and then will be worth nothing in a year or two.

Ours had a 1000 yard season for me in 2015 and was approaching his 8th season. I traded him and a 3rd round pick for a 1st rounder which turned out to be the second overall pick. Which i then selected HB Harold Shaw

Ours had 900 yards and 11 td's (bad average) for Albany and then went to the bench a year later and had 20 yards for Albany.

Harold Shaw started off slowly but was the top rusher this year and i've got a young HB for the next 5 or so seasons.

You keep criticising the Wes Ours move but that worked out for me.

If I have one of the best all time RB's in FIFL history i dont spend a fortune on a backup HB. Quincy Carter is my QB, i'm not going to trade a big amount for a backup.

Ours did all his damage when i had him, when i traded him i got a lot in return (That high 1st round pick) and Ours career went downhill as he was getting older.

Wes Ours wasnt in his prime when i traded him, i thought he would start to decline. Plus 'sometimes' you need to trade a player in his prime to get a lot in return. Ours was tipping the edge over to 'going downhill'

So I'm a 'dummy' as i traded away Ours ? Again look at the stats, a 'dummy' would keep bleating on 6 years later about the Ours trade as you mention overrrrrrr and over.

I can see why you traded Wes Ours, he was a backup, but to then get a HB like Shannon in reserve, who did nothing, got splinters and was eventually cut is a waste. You wanted a 1st round pick for CB Unertl ! Why ? Hes a 4th round pick at best.

I was 8-6 in Wes Ours final year, a year later with Charles Stackhouse at HB i'm 8-6. Made a big trade to move up to get Harold Shaw, a few years ago. 4 seasons ago i was 5-9 and bottom of my division. Now i'm one game away from the championship.

I dont regret trading Wes Ours one bit. Think i traded him at the right time and got a good young replacement for the future.

In the league you sometimes trade a player in his prime (to get a lot back), you try to guess when a player might go downhill and trade him before that (Ours). Thats what makes the league so fun. Sometimes i'll trade a player (DE Browning) who is in his prime but is surplus to requirements. But Ours was a good trade decision from myself. Got value for him at his peak and then he went downhill.
