Fourcade Future for Tupelo

January 10, 2005 - Tupelo, MS-The Tupelo FireAnts are pleased to announce the hiring of former Ole Miss/New Orleans Saints quarterback John Fourcade as the team's next Head Coach.

“I am thrilled to be here in Tupelo with the FireAnts,” Head Coach John Fourcade said. “The FireAnts have always been a strong and stable franchise with a good base of local talent. I am excited to build upon this talent and compete with some of the top teams in the country in the new UIF.”

A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, John Fourcade was a standout quarterback in college with Ole Miss from 1978 to 1981. After college, Fourcade went on to play professionally in the Canadian Football League and United States Football League before entering the National Football League in 1985 with the New York Giants and then with the New Orleans Saints from 1986-1991.

Fourcade joins the FireAnts after several successful stints as both a coach and player in the indoor football ranks, as well. Most recently, Fourcade coached the Columbus Wardogs in Arena Football 2 for two seasons in 2003 and 2004. Prior to joining Columbus, he guided the Florida Firecats to the af2 Championship Finals in 2002, losing the title game to Peoria.

"It was important for the FireAnts organization to find a Head Coach with local ties along with a knowledge of the North Mississippi area...and after an extensive search, we found what we were looking for in John Fourcade,” FireAnts Owner Monty Fletcher said. "Fourcade brings multiple years of indoor football experience to Tupelo, both as a player and Head Coach. He knows this game inside and out but most importantly, he knows how to win. On a whole, we are looking forward to a great season in Tupelo as we gear up for the 2005 UIF season."

Coach Fourcade will take his first look at prospective FireAnts players at the team's first open tryout on Saturday, January 22nd at Robbins Field in Tupelo. Registration will take place promptly at 9am and interested participants will need to bring running shoes, cleats and workout clothing appropriate for the weather. The cost is $50 and includes a FireAnts T-Shirt and two tickets to the FireAnts home opener against the Lexington Horsemen on March 18th at the BancorpSouth Center.

Don't miss any of the exciting action of FireAnts football in 2005! Season tickets are on sale now with pricing for all seven home games at the BancorpSouth Center starting as low as $70 for adults and $35 for children 12 and under/seniors 60 and older.
