Huge name considering the league. Ballard put up Huge numbers at Mt. Union, however just couldnt do it in any league. AFL career was quite disapointing... sort of like Gruden in the FIFL... high percentage but not alot of touchdowns.


Canton Names Jim Ballard Assistant Coach

anuary 17, 2005 -- The Canton (OH) franchise in the Atlantic Indoor Football League have announced Jim Ballard will serve as assistant coach.

Ballard most recently served as assistant coach at Cuyahoga Falls (OH) High School for three seasons, beginning in 2001.

Ballard played for the school from 1986-89, then spent one season at Wilmington College, where he was named an all-league player. From 1991 to 1993, he was a three-time All-American at Mount Union College.

As a starter all three seasons, he threw for over 12,000 yards and 149 touchdowns. He led the school to their first NCAA Division III National Championship in 1993, the same season he was named Division III Player of the Year.

Ballard has had stints in the World League of American Football (London Monarchs - 1995), NFL (Cincinnati Bengals - 1994, Buffalo Bills - 1996 & 1998), NFL Europe (Scottish Claymores - 1996 & 1998), Canadian Football League (Toronto Argonauts - 1999 & 2002, Saskatchewan Roughriders - 2001), Arena Football League (Buffalo Destroyers - 2001, Indiana Firebirds - 2001 & 2003) and the XFL (Las Vegas Outlaws - 2001).

With the Claymores, he led the team to a World Bowl title and is the second all-time leading passer in team history. In 2000, he was inducted in the team's Hall of Fame.

In 2002 with the Argos, he led the team to the Grey Cup semifinals against the Montreal Alouettes. He led the team in passing yards and pass rating.

Prior to coaching at Cuyahoga Falls High School, Ballard was a quarterbacks coach at Mount Union (1994-1995) and served one season as assistant coach at Alliance High School.
